"this photograph of the original mad Poster at the Clash's Pop up shop in Soho in 2013"
The Clash opened a pop-up store in London. Called Black Market Clash, the store opened for two weeks from Saturday, September 7 to Sunday, September 22 2013 at 75 Berwick Street, Soho. 1
The Black Market Clash store will mark the remastered releases of the 'The Clash Hits Back' compilation and the 'Sound System' boxset, which contains all of the band's studio albums. 2
The store, which is art directed and curated by the band and Robert Gordon McHarg lll of The Subway Gallery, will contain a display of the group's instruments, stage clothing, rare memorabilia and never-before-seen original manuscripts and artifacts from the band. 3
"I say "Pop Up Store" like it was some kind of afterthought. Something perhaps the record company threw together after too many WKDs. But no. This is something else. I popped down to the pop up yesterday to have a look and I would go as far to say that if you are in London in the next couple of weeks and don't see this store, you need to take a long hard look at yourself. The ‘Black Market Clash' store marks the re-release of the band's back catalogue in fully remastered form, and is open until September 22nd in Soho with instruments, stage-wear, rare memorabilia and original manuscripts all on display. It's stunning. I saw grown men in there almost weep with excitement." 4 (or archived PDF)
It allows online users to view memorabilia and listen to The Clash's music. They can also click on albums and purchase them via Amazon.
Henry Stuart, founder of Visualise, said: "Whilst our initial brief was to enhance the overall experience of the pop-up store in an interactive piece of content that would live online forever, we are proud to have built a solution that includes both 360 images and an e-commerce element which makes users feel like they are inside the physical store."
A listening lounge has also been created where fans of The Clash can listen to remastered recorded work. Guitar brand Fender will be present at the pop-up store as part of the ‘plug and play' demo stations and The Clash masterclasses. 5
