Audio 1

Sound 3.5 - 1hr 20 mins - low?gen - 23 tracks
small gaps between songs

Complete Control

Audio 2

Sound 3 - 1hr 18 mins - unknown gen - 23 tracks
Misses safe European Home. Same source as (1), small gaps between songs, quieter, nort as lively. From more copied version.

Complete Control

Sound quality

Audio 1 - a decent audience tape with plenty of stereo. Although the taper and his mates can be heard slightly too often.

An older tape (not included here) came with tracks 12-14 edited out, and placed at the end of the tape. It was a little flatter in sound with more noise on the sound. It also omits the last three tracks from Radio Clash onwards.

The full copy (1) has is better clarity than older copies, though it has been copied too many times. The vocals are very clear as are the drums, guitars and the bass can be made out clearly. Police and thieves fades out before the end.

An upgrade to (1) is better but misses Safe European Home.

The Spectrum, Philadelphia PA

The Spectrum (later known as CoreStates Spectrum, First Union Spectrum and Wachovia Spectrum) was an indoor arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. Opened in September 1967 as part of what is now known as the South Philadelphia Sports Complex.

After several expansions of its seating capacity it accommodated 18,168 for basketball and 17,380 for ice hockey, arena football, indoor soccer, and box lacrosse. It was also the home for so many memorable Flyers, Sixers, Boxing, Wrestling and Concerts and Family Events , and the last event at the Spectrum was a Pearl Jam concert on October 31, 2009.

The Spectrum was closed and demolished in 2010, and a hotel was built in its place as part of a retail/dining/entertainment district

Fantastic

Opening act was an 'a capella' soul act 14 Carat Soul.. They were fantastic and got booed like mad by rude punks with closed minds. The Clash were un-effing-believably too loud for the venue. I moved from the 2nd row to the back...and I was 17!

There were a lot of fights

... what I remember most is the excitement of seeing Joe and Paul on stage (my one and only time seeing the Clash), and the fact that there were a lot of fights in the audience.  The Spectrum is a huge indoor sports arena, the vibe was very violent during the show.

Sam Daley: Saw this tour in Philly 10 days later.

If you have never seen the CLASH, you've never seen a rock concert!

Saw these guys in concert with my buddy Marino.... Drove from Navy OS A School in Dam Neck, VA on a Saturday, had to be back on base by 0600 hrs Sunday. The Clash played well after Midnight, drove over 100mph in a 1970 Mustang 350 Boss.... Made it back on base in Dam Neck at 0545 hrs to stand my post @ 0600 hrs. Well worth seeing the CLASH! If you have never seen the CLASH, you've never seen a rock concert! Great memories......

3 bands in the same hotel

Lisa on October 18, 2012 at 11:30 am:

Actually in 1984 we were all in Philly at the same hotel. The Dead, The Clash and The Knicks. The hotel was insane. Weir sent someone to invite the clash to the party room.

Joe Strummer showed up with his body guard and it was all fun and games until they started giving hippies haircuts. Phil Kramer, a dear long lost friend, said he’d get a haircut. Thought it was cool, a haircut by Joe strummer. But it turned weird. He decided a mohawk would be better. Weir had to send for the road crew to have some backup at the party.

Great Story! Even more.

Film: 'The Rise and Fall of The Clash'

features archival footage and new interviews to tell the story of the band's final days. The four primary members of the band - Jones, Joe Strummer, Paul Simonen and Topper Headon tell their sides of the story as do Nick Sheppard and Vince White, both of whom replaced Jones, and original drummer Terry Chimes, who returned to replace Headon in 1982.
