Background

Lucky enough to get backstage

70's Nottingham Calling all Punk Rockers

..."and was also lucky enough to get backstage at the Clash [Nottingham] Palais gig, where there was a crate of beer and tray full of chips that the Clash said they had demanded, not for them but for The Buzzcocks. Bumped into Howard Devoto that night and asked him what he'd been doing since he'd left Buzzcocks, his reply "I went into the fruit business, but it went mushy!" funny what sticks in yer memory box."

CANCELLED DATES MICKS FINGER`
Clash get fingered - and a single

THE CLASH had to cancel dates at Kidderminster, Derby and Nottingham while guitarist Mick Jones had an operation on a septic finger. They hope to reschedule the dates for the end of the tour.

The Clash's next single, out on CBS, will almost certainly be a cut off their new album, 'Remote Control'.

Venue

Nottingham Palais

The Nottingham Palais, located on Upper Parliament Street in Nottingham, England, is a historic building with a rich history as a music and dance venue.

The building was constructed by the Midland Palais de Danse Company and opened as a dance hall and billiard saloon under the name Palais de Danse on April 22, 1925. The architects were Alfred John Thraves and Henry Hardwick Dawson, and the contractors were W. and J. Simons[2]. The building is characterized by an eclectic mix of neoclassical, Art Deco, oriental, and even Pre-Raphaelite motifs[12]. Over the years, the venue has changed its name several times, becoming Ritzy, then The Palais, then Oceana, and currently Pryzm[2][3].

On May 12, 1977, The Clash as part of their 'White Riot' tour[1][4] played the Palais. The tour was a historic moment in punk history, taking the punk movement to areas across Britain[11].

The building is still standing and currently operates as Pryzm, a chain nightclub owned by Rekom UK[2]. It was refurbished in 2005 by Bignell Shacklady Ewing[2].
