Audio 1

reasonable - Sound 3 - 92min - low? - 23 tracks

At the end of Joe refers to Frank Sinatra playing over at Arean this night referring to confused ticket stubs - Sinatra was the Arena next door the (listed as the following night in some places) and was paid $156,000.

The tape has differingqualities throughout.

London Calling (earlier)

This is England

I Fought the Law (later)

White Man In Hammersmith Palais (later)

Sound quality

A slightly above average audience sound. A bit flat, echoey and distant but clear and very enjoyable. It has some slight noise. The first few songs are slightly more distant than later. The taper must have moved forward and this is England has some mic fiddling.

Ticket

Mecca Auditorium, Milwaukee WI

The Mecca Auditorium, now known as the UW–Milwaukee Panther Arena, is an indoor arena located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The arena opened in 1950 and was one of the first to accommodate the needs of broadcast television.

It was part of the MECCA (The Milwaukee Exposition, Convention Center, and Arena) complex and was known as the MECCA Arena from 1974 to 1995. The arena has a maximum capacity of 12,700 people and offers 41,700 square feet of floor space 3, 7, 13.

Miller High Life Theatre as it is now (previously Milwaukee Theatre and originally Milwaukee Auditorium) was converted into a theater in October 2001. The project cost $41.9 million and the name changed to the Milwaukee Theatre. A naming rights deal changed its name in 2017 to the Miller High Life Theatre. It seats 4,086 people and can be configured into a more intimate venue that seats 2,500.

The Mecca Auditorium has hosted a variety of events, including concerts and sports games. Notably, on May 14, 1984, it hosted concerts by both The Clash and Frank Sinatra 1, 4, 5

The arena is part of a larger downtown campus that includes the Milwaukee Theatre and Wisconsin Center. It has undergone several name changes over the years, including the Milwaukee Arena (1950–1974), MECCA Arena (1974–1995), Wisconsin Center Arena (1995–2000), and U.S. Cellular Arena (2000–2014) 3. Today, it continues to serve as a venue for sports and entertainment events 10.

When worlds collide — Sinatra fans, Clash fans share the street in 1984

By Chris Foran of the Journal Sentinel

On a spring night in Milwaukee, the pop-music equivalents of matter and antimatter met — without explosion or incident.

On May 14, 1984, Frank Sinatra, the 69-year-old Chairman of the Board, was making a rare Milwaukee concert appearance before 10,728 at the Arena (now UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena). Next door, the British punk legends the Clash, were making a rare stop in town, too, playing before 3,625 fans at the Auditorium (now the Milwaukee Theatre)...

"We got tickets were courtesy of a local radio station"

Christopher Kaye

My wife and I attended this concert at what was then known as the Auditorium in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As I recall the tickets were courtesy of a local radio station; our seats were in the front very near the band, and to the right.

Amazing

WE LOVE THE CLASH / Brian Saunders May 14 1984 I got to see the Clash in Milwaukee WI  it was amazing to me at 16.  Same night next door was Sinatra so the side walk crowds were polar opposites!

Tim Hughes I went to that show too. Wish mick jones would have been there. they were still the only band that mattered. Wish I had the set list

"We had tickets on the floor"

chummy - Added the song I recall vividly; we had tickets on the floor right in front of one set of speakers.

stayintime123 - E*I*E*I*O* was the opening band for this show.

Film: 'The Rise and Fall of The Clash'

features archival footage and new interviews to tell the story of the band's final days. The four primary members of the band - Jones, Joe Strummer, Paul Simonen and Topper Headon tell their sides of the story as do Nick Sheppard and Vince White, both of whom replaced Jones, and original drummer Terry Chimes, who returned to replace Headon in 1982.
