Laker Hall, State University of New York SUNY, Oswego NY
Laker Hall - Max Ziel Gymnasium is a 3,500-seat space located in Laker Hall, located on the State University of New York at Oswego campus, has been a venue for various concerts and events since its opening in 1968. The gym has hosted performances by notable artists such as the Barenaked Ladies on April 25, 1996, and the Tom Tom Club on October 30, 1992 1. It serves as the primary facility for SUNY Oswego's varsity athletic complex, housing competitions for wrestling, basketball, volleyball, and swimming and diving 2, 3.
The concert history of Laker Hall Gym includes a performance by the Jerry Garcia Band on February 17, 1980, and the last recorded concert at the venue was on April 27, 1987, featuring Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe 4. Lee Hall Gymnasium, another venue at SUNY Oswego, was used for concerts until Laker Hall opened in 1968 7.
Bruce Springsteen performed at Laker Hall Gym on December 16, 1975, as part of his Born to Run Tour 9, 11, 13. The venue has been a part of the campus's history of hosting rock legends and stars, contributing to Oswego's vibrant music scene 15.
Setlist
RFAce - Setlist off the Drum kit.... I helped set it up and still have it. It was given to me by the Clash's Roadie (old incorrect setlist removed!)
I worked for the school's PPB. Set up the drum kit with the roadie. Was onstage for the sound check until Strummer asked non essentials to leave. He was showing the replacement guitar player a few riffs. Got this as souvenir!

Jeff McCracken Favorite bands #87. I used to have their autographs. One of my sisters ran into them at a drug store when they were in Oswego to play at Laker Hall. She got their autographs on a small yellow post it note. I used to have it on my music corkboard, then it ended up in a drawer, then a box and then it disappeared. Major bummer!

The Clash Punk Rock band takes different road with two new musicians

The Clash's current tour has taken it to smaller venues previously ignored by the band. It's quite a contrast in light of the $500,000 fee the Clash received for playing last summer's US Festival in California.
Strummer described it as a kind of revolution-ary outreach. "I mean I'm talking about towns like Oswego and Canton . . . and Omaha. We haven't done these towns, and we should've done them. Because nobody bothers to come to them except fifth-rate heavy-metal bands (playing) music that is destroying women, insulting your intelli-gence, or ripping people off."
He cited heavy-metal audiences as polar opposites of the Clash. "I think our audience is people who want to believe that there will be a future. That's the way our audience Is different from, say, a Motley Crue audience.
Because our audience is people who sense the world's gone wrong and they wanna feel like they've got time to live their lives out and they're worried about it."
While on the line, Strummer wanted to unveil a philosophical revelation: "On this tour, we've found out really how to live. We've found out the ultimate drug. I'd like to pass that on to you. Uh, it's 'No Drug.' You got it? It's `No Drug.' And best of all, it's free. You don't have to pay for It."
It was suggested that Strummer sounded as if he had found religion, perhaps become a Moonie. "Well, I'll tell ya, I'm damned if I'm going to go to Armageddon stoned. You can forget that."
