Film: 'The Rise and Fall of The Clash'

features archival footage and new interviews to tell the story of the band's final days. The four primary members of the band - Jones, Joe Strummer, Paul Simonen and Topper Headon tell their sides of the story as do Nick Sheppard and Vince White, both of whom replaced Jones, and original drummer Terry Chimes, who returned to replace Headon in 1982.

Joe Strummer's original, handwritten set list

Mr. Media Interviews by Bob Andelman ·
facebook link

I've apparently crossed a weird milestone, having officially interviewed more celebrities than I can remember. In honor of what would have been Bo Diddley's 85th birthday today, I updated my interview with him -- and the audio file -- and tried to locate a photo the late Tom Howland took of me interviewing Bo. I couldn't find it, but I did discover that I had interviewed Billy Idol (I only remember his guitarist, Steve Stevens) and Otis Williams, leader of The Temptations. Oh, and I also found what might be Joe Strummer's original, handwritten set list for The Clash concert at the Orlando Jai-Alai Fronton on March 30, 1984. So the search wasn't a total loss!

Clash's best message is music

St Petersburg Times FL -

02 Apr 1984, Mon ·Page 51

The stage was done up in camouflage netting

I saw the Clash at the Orlando Jai-Alai, March 30, 1984. The stage was done up in camouflage netting with some sort of tin foil strung through it. There were video monitors sitting among the amps which ran looping clips from 1920s or 1930s B/W movies. The opener was a lame rockabilly three piece group.

After they finished, an old English man came out on stage and shouted into the mic, "Ladies and gentleman, it's the show stopping, pill popping, trouser dropping CALASH". The place gradually filled with pot smoke and the volume increased steadily throughout the show. It was pretty hilarious overall. It took quite a long time to remember where the car was parked when we got outside.

We then went & just hung out w/ them

PJ59 - User
My best friend and I went to this concert. We were on vacation. We ended up leaving with the Clash. There was one group member that didn't come. It also seemed like there was tension w/ that one band mate. We drove around for hours. Paul wanted to go to the "Bloody Bucket." We didn't know what he meant. Coincidentally, (LOL) we drove by a KFC. Paul got all excited. That's what he was referring too. The KFC bucket. Too bad it was closed.

We then went & just hung out w/ them. There was a black guy with them. I "think" Paul said that man was a security guard. They were all such gentlemen. They never tried anything.

We actually left the Jai Alai Fronton Hall with them. There were photos everywhere clicking away. Gosh,

I wish I could see some of those photos. I know they're out there somewhere. My son would get a kick out of it.

Joe was on the radio in the afternoon

Post

by coffeepotman » 15 Aug 2020, 5:38pm

My one and only Clash show, I remember Joe was on the radio in the afternoon, it was quite a party atmosphere in the parking lot. The show was interesting, I was really missing having Mick up there. Thing I remember most was they had a bank of televisions on stage.

Remember Joe on the radio in the afternoon

Michael Riff - I was there, remember Joe on the radio in the afternoon, also remember the stage, it was cool with TV monitors all over. Don't remember much about the show except I missed Mick Jones and his guitar. I thought the three guitar attack really lacked the finesse of just one Mick.

Televisions were the backdrop

Spike Weiser

Yes, I was fortunate to catch The Clash...

Ed Pugliesi

I do remember Larry Joe Miller opened

William Bear Nidy

Fern Park Florida 3/30/1984

Michael Watkins

Televisions were the backdrop. I still have that Tshirt from the show

Gabe Echazabal

I was there too...great show despite Mick not being in the lineup...and, true to Clash legend, everyone waiting around back after the gig was escorted to the band's backstage area..what a great and memorable night in my life.
