Newcastle Polytechnic
Newcastle Polytechnic, now known as Northumbria University, was founded in 1969 and incorporated the Rutherford College of Technology.
As of now, the university is still operational and has undergone significant development, with ongoing refurbishment of existing teaching facilities and unification of the city center sites into one integrated campus 7.
The concert is referenced in a blog post on My Vintage Rock, which includes an extract from a book about The Clash. The post mentions that there was violence and fighting at the gig, and that Richard Hell had a firework thrown in his face 1.

The Clash Newcastle Polytechnic Oct 28th 1977 and Dec 2nd 1978 Support acts: Richard Hell and the Viodoids (1977); The Slits (1978) The Clash came back to Newcastle later in 1977, and again in 1978. I only have vague memories of the 1977 gig, and can;t be certain that I attended, although I think I did.

I saw The Clash at Bonds - excellent
Facebook page - The Clash played a series of 17 concerts at Bond's Casino in New York City in May and June of 1981 in support of their album Sandinista!.
