The Music Machine
The Music Machine (later renamed the Camden Palace) began in the 60's and became famous for punk gigs, still in use today as a dance nightclub, it has staged gigs in recent years by Blur and the Oasis.
The Music Machine was a perfect type of Clash venue; sweaty, intimate, seat less, restrained security and within the part of London they lived and loved best. Enjoying greater critical acclaim and increasing commercial success, few other bands (if any) either then or now, would have opted to play four nights here rather than they take the money and play one or two nights at the larger Hammersmith Odeon or similar.
New heights of popularity within the UK music press, the Music Machine residency resulted in some ecstatic reviews (see link).
All help appreciated. Info, articles, reviews, comments or photos welcome.

I tried to get in through the roof by going up through the derelict building behind
Colin Adkins - I was there.
Charley Apperley - I was there.. The Sid vicious benefit gigs.. I tried to get in through the roof by going up through the derelict building behind. Then the cosworths got involved..The people I was with got nicked cos they were running about like headless chickens.. I hid and waited. When all the dibble had gone I crept down and managed to get into the gig courtesy of John green who let me in. I saw two of those gigs out of 4..One of the nights Joe strummer came out and gave me a fiver to get back to Hackney..Blimey is that tear in my eye?
Mike Filer - Was that gig I went to having got ticket from Lyceum gig that was oversold ? Think so.
Paul Killen - I remember bunking in through the side door that night I was only 12
Mick Mercer - THE CLASH in 1978 at the Music Machine playing a benefit gig for Sid Vicious' legal defence fund, Personally I'd have let him rot. https://facebook.com/
Neil Thompson - I remember I was in Camden at about 5 o'clock that day - The Clash were doing a soundcheck and there were loads of punks hanging around outside singing along

The Clash giving it all onstage at The Music Machine (Camden Palace) in 1978 - Photography by Max Browne
The Clash giving it all onstage at The Music Machine (Camden Palace), London in 1978 Max Browne recalls, "This was the first time I'd seen the band and it was on their home ground at The Camden Palace in 1978. Their power was shattering - visually, aurally and socially of course. White lightning flashed on musical crescendos that seemed to singe the hair, crowd surfing, fans jumping up singing with the band until they were whisked offstage, only to be instantly replaced - all part of The Clash at their peak. Mick Jones glanced at me in the box and I pressed the shutter."

THE CLASH, THE SLITS and THE INNOCENTS play the Music Machine in Camden.1978 ( )
Full colour book of the event: https://tinyurl.com/j63pzk5a
This colour book contains 104 colour photos of the gig that was held to raise monies for the Sid Vicious legal fund when he was facing a charge of murder in New York following the death of Nancy Spungen. Colour photos cost a fortune back in 1978 and three rolls were the equivalent of a week’s wages, mad as that might seem, so this was an unusual experiment for me. Not all the photos are good, as I went right down the front, and you can imagine what that was like but this is a good reminder of a gig from which no bootlegs are known to exist, so this can be the one lasting testament. There are 4 photos of Phil Rambow (with Mick Jones and Glen Matlock in his band), 30 of The Innocents, 36 of The Slits, 34 of The Clash. Sorry about the price, but colour books cost a lot more to do than their black and white equivalents, and I figured this one deserved the full colour treatment.
