A late addition to the Tour
Blackburn was a late addition to the Tour. Liverpool was cancelled due to the venue getting cold feet. See below. Refered extensively (p84) to in A Riot of Our Own where Mick got busted by Blacburn CID for possession.
The motel he refers to is the Moat House. This is the date bacause it gets a late mention in the NME of the previous week. Steve Jones came on for the encores though the noise and atmosphere was incredible. For the afternoon soundcheck the band performed Desmond Deckers 'The Israleites' (which was about 4.30 for statisticians).

Blackburn's ALL-TIME memorable gigs
The Clash, July 13, 1978 - Lancashire Telegraph
Joe Strummer and Co were promoting their White Man In Hammersmith Palais single and arguably the hottest band in the country at the time. Tickets were £4. Equally notable was that support band, US duo Suicide, then on their first tour of Europe, were arrested on suspicion of possession after the gig. The ‘drugs’ turned out to be seasoning and the charges dropped!
Sounds - Clash busted
poor qulity but just about readable
The police found a small amount hashish
13 Jul 78 - Blackburn, King George's Hall
Revega Music | Facebook
"MR. RAY was the arresting officer - Detective Inspector Ray - when Alan & Marty got caught up in a raid on the Clash & Suicide's hotel in Blackburn on that infamous Clash tour.
The police found a small amount of (what they believed) was hashish in their room. Alan & Marty had to make an appearance in court (back in Blackburn) after their tour was over.
In those days, you'd expect a fine of somewhere between £50-100, so I took £200 with me. I tried to be a good character witness but it clearly didn't work as the judge took one look at them and hit them with £200, EACH. So I had to get Bronze to wire another £200 from London to get them out of the cells. That took a couple of hours. The judge thought they were a flight risk!
The funny part was, after the 'hash' had been analyzed and introduced as evidence, it turns out that it only contained a tiny amount of illegal substance and something like 80% 'unidentified vegetable matter'."
- Thanks to howard t. (Howard Thompson)
Liz Lamere - Thanks for bailing them out ht!! Alan told me he said to Marty - "don't laugh when we are standing before the judge" (who was wearing the traditional powdered wig) and sure enough as they stood there Alan felt the floor start to shake as Marty was trying to contain his laughter. Apparent lack of remorse probably didn't help the cause:)

Stephen O'Hare - I went to the Manchester gig , but I also went to Blackburn King George's and saw Suicide support them, yet that date not showing on the posters? [it was a late additon to the tour]
