Cheering for Clash at the first punk rock show in Germany

From the area around Mainz, 11, 13 and 15 years old, they danced and sang so perfectly that immediately after their performance a record producer approached them and offered them a contract. Also the BRAVO “boy of the year ’77”, Frank Seehofer, had come to Mainz – he once again brought his Bay City Rollers show, with which he had won the teen contest in Berlin.

Then the first star guest, Elke Best, took the stage. She brought her latest hits; however, with her sophisticated “Ich bin nicht Lisa” she was not able to fully win over the audience.

Quite different was Frank Zander – he had his fans in his grasp from the first to the last minute of his performance and showed with his versatile act that he belongs to the absolute top class.

And then it became exciting: the stage was rebuilt for the first appearance of a genuine punk band in Germany. Only recently they had been “disinvited” from the Bremer Musikladen because they wanted to play live – now at the BRAVO Disco they got the chance: The Clash unleashed a true storm of sound. From the audience’s reaction it was clear – punk will also catch on with rock fans in Germany.

In the following “breather” Sandro raffled off 5 building savings contracts with a 100 mark deposit each – donated by the Landesbausparkasse, which had already given away many prizes to BRAVO readers in the foyer.

And then came the absolute highlight of the day: Rosetta Stone! They had passport difficulties and could not travel in full. Therefore, only Ian Mitchell and Damian McKee came. But the two alone drove the Rosetta Stone fans, who had been calling for them repeatedly during the program, wild. Sandro played their record “Sunshine of Your Love”, and Ian and Damian plunged fearlessly into the “forest” of hands reaching out to them. Ian was really stunned: “I had not expected such enthusiasm.”

Spontaneously, after their performance, he sat down in the dressing room with Damian and wrote hundreds of autographs, which the two then dropped from the window onto the street.

Meanwhile, another surprise took the stage in the hall – the Bellamy Brothers had postponed their trip home to California by a few days in order to be in Mainz. With “Let Your Love Flow” and “Bound to Explode” they sent the BRAVO readers on their way home.

On 19 October, the next DISCO live will already take place in Nuremberg...!

The four punk rockers Joe Strummer, Paul Simonon, Nicky Headon and Mick Jones dispensed with flashy clothes. They wanted to impress at the BRAVO Disco Live only with their music. They succeeded completely with razor-sharp songs like “City of the Dead”.

For his comedy number “Oh, Susi”, Zander brought this smart BRAVO reader on stage as his partner.

Elke Best sang her latest songs, for example “Ich bin nicht Lisa”.

David and Howard Bellamy came as unannounced surprise guests. Above all, their new song, “Bound to Explode”, was a huge hit.

Through BRAVO a chance: this is how the amateur bands made an impact

At every DISCO from now on, singers and groups who have not yet made it into show business will have the opportunity to present themselves to a large audience. In Mainz, these included:

BRAVO “Boy of the Year” Frank Seehofer with his Rollers show

“3 A” is the name of this girl group. Anke (13), Andrea (15) and Annette (11) brought a professional disco show and great singing talent at their first public performance. If all goes well, they will soon be signed.

Preams from Wiesbaden. They achieved first place out of 18 applicants. The decisive factor was their own heavy rock style and their good compositions.

Bravo celebrates: The Clash at the first punk-rock show in Germany

Mainz, audience aged 11, 13 and 15. They danced and sang so perfectly that immediately after their performance a record producer contacted them and offered them a contract. The "Boy of the Year '77", Frank Seehofer, had also come to Mainz - he brought along his Bay City Rollers show, with which he had already won the teen poll in Berlin.

Then, as the first star guest, Elke Best stepped onto the stage. She sang her newest hits, including "Ich bin nicht Lisa". However, she could not fully assert herself with the audience.

Completely different was Frank Zander - he had his fans under control from the first to the last minute of his performance and proved with his witty appearance that he truly belongs to the absolute top class.

And then it became exciting: the stage was rebuilt for the first appearance of a genuine punk band in Germany. Only shortly before, they had been thrown out of a Bremen music shop because they wanted to play live. At the BRAVO-DISCO, they finally got the opportunity.

The Clash developed a real sound hurricane. From the reaction of the audience, one thing was absolutely clear: punk will also assert itself among rock fans in Germany.

During the following "changeover break", Sandro gave away five building-savings contracts worth 100 Deutsche Marks each - sponsored by the Landesbausparkasse, which had already distributed many prizes in the foyer among BRAVO readers.

Then came the absolute highlight of the day: Rosetta Stone. They had problems with playback and could not perform completely. That is why Ian Mitchell and Damian McKee came on stage alone. They thrilled the Rosetta Stone fans, who kept calling for them throughout the programme.

Sandro played their record "Sunshine of Your Love", and Ian and Damian stormed through the hall hand in hand to "Wild". Ian was visibly overwhelmed. Such enthusiasm he had not expected.

Spontaneously, after his performance, he sat down with Damian in the wardrobe and signed hundreds of autographs, which were then raining down onto the street from the window.

Meanwhile, another surprise was singing on stage: the Bellamy Brothers had postponed their return to California by a few days to appear in Mainz. With "Let Your Love Flow" and "Bound to Explode", they sent BRAVO readers home happy.

On 19 October, the next BRAVO-DISCO will already take place in Nuremberg.

The four punk rockers Joe Strummer, Paul Simonon, Nicky Headon and Mick Jones deliberately avoided extravagant hippie clothes. They wanted to convince the BRAVO-DISCO-LIVE audience solely with their music. The result: their rousing song "City of the Dead" was a complete success.

Elke Best sang her newest songs, including "Ich bin nicht Lisa".

David and Howard Bellamy appeared as unannounced surprise guests. Above all, their new song "Bound to Explode" made a huge impact.

For his hit "Oh, Susi", he brought his partner onto the stage.
