Legal action on gig bans

FOLLOWING a week of national Press, hysteria centred on the Sex Pistols the band's manager Malcolm McLaren this week, began legal moves against venues which, JOHNNY ROTTEN have cancelled, appearances.

Full details of the Pistols new-found fame as the nation's bad boys are printed on the news pages but as RockStar went to press two more managements said No to the band.

Most important is the dropping of the Sex Pistols appearance as the opening attraction of London's new Roxy rock venue in Harlesden on Boxing Day.

In Glasgow the city's licensing committee also scrubbed a show at the Apollo theatre on December 15. McLaren described, the move as censorship, and said a specific legal action would be taken against Lord Provost Peter McCann. It is understood that both the Musicians Union and EMI are backing the Pistols in their action: this is the first time the Apollo has had its licence withdrawn for any show since opening in 1928.
