Still on tour, the Clash although one of its co-founders was fired. Although there were some fights on stage (and behind) at the US San Bernardino Festival. Although a London newspaper wrote that Joe Strummer would no longer do tours because he "wanted to be close to his newborn baby", which had been given the name Jazz in honor of Joe's favorite music.

- "I have no girls and I don't give a damn about jazz; I just like rock'n'roll", he hastened to declare the Clash's leader: but more to defend himself from the accusation of neglecting the rock and indifference towards jazz.

Still on the road. They performed in Los Angeles a few nights ago at the great Long Beach Arena. By some critics Clash have been defined as the most important group of today, since they see the continuation of Bob Dylan's social-political message of the 1960s. The Clash albums attack the cloud of oppression and greed that begins with the Governments of Washington, London, Moscow and continues in the ghettos of the various metropolises, down to the battle fronts of South America and elsewhere in the world. In a rock field that for decades remained passive to social problems, the Clash started out as poor junkies in the race for commercial success; but they rode well and won a powerful position with the "Combat Rock" album. The group was also invited by the Who to participate in the latter's farewell concerts: a move generally interpreted as the passage of the torch from one rock-generation to another. However, their one-year standstill (both as a tour and as a record production) left a little perplexing. Has the band already lost a bit of topicality in the ever-changing world full of new trends in rock? Will the group suffer from the absence of Mick Jones who has collaborated on many of the Clash songs? It is important to answer these questions, because if the Clash go into oblivion this will set free an ever-growing number of featherweight and easy-going rock bands such as Duran Duran, or, worse, bands of heavy-pitched Maoism such as those that bombard with thundering and thundering metalic rock.
